Why did the Nets want Devin Harris?

In the Jason Kidd trade, why did the New Jersey Nets want Devin Harris instead of Jason Terry? Harris is a good player, but Terry is obviously more valuable--look at his streak shooting in the Mavericks' recent loss to the Suns. Did the Nets ask for Terry but get turned down?
