Did Michael Phelps go to public school?

He went to Townson High School in Baltimore. He attended the University of Michigan but skipped competing for the UofM and concentrated on international competition. Phelps followed his age group coach, Bob Bowman, to Michigan as Bowman became the UofM coach. Bowman was also the head coach of a USS swim team in Ann Arbor named Club Wolverine where several other former North Baltimore Swim Club swimmers competed.
